The day went dang hell-bent witchy on me. It happened right after supper when Davis said (for the 34th time today), "Now what?" That is when I, your sweet fairy godmother, blew a freaking gasket.

a.k.a. My Most Expensive Lesson Yet. Red and blue flashing lights?! Come on! The sandy SUV behind me turned out to be an unmarked cop car and I was so BUSTED... My own run in with the law teaches me some powerful lessons about disciplining my kids!!

Parent from authenticity; because children have no respect for shadows. Birth from presence and power; because fear blocks every step of the process. Make love with pure surrender and abandon and inner nakedness; or don’t bother.

Fun water ideas are just square one.....What is your "danger-immersion" philosophy? Step up to the edge!

Do your kids ever go into Paradise Paralysis? Like mine this morning! It’s a perfect summer day with dozens of options all around. Yet some inexplicable malaise of grumpy-bumpy inertia takes hold right at breakfast time.

I love the way this communal game models teamwork, adaptability and problem solving. We modified our game as we went, really making it our own through trial, error, and consensus. Not only was it wildly successful in guiding their behaviour, but what a valuable experience in group project development!

Looking for a unique, homegrown birthday party idea that's full of life and greenery and foraging and hands-on messy fun? Beautiful, and so fun to build, terrariums are the perfect take-home party favour, and the snack ideas are endlessly creative too!

Oh, the roundabout ways of children, mice, pigs, and me. If you give a mouse a cookie. Or a moose a muffin. One thing leads to another....If you give Gigi a Kijiji she will end up with....a pretty sweet batch of plants and animals!

I love eggs. I use them often. As hand-held emoticons of the soul. Potent vessels…

A thing that has been well used and loved carries that essence and gives that essence to the child. Parents, I invite you, as I lead by experiment and push the Christmas envelope --- why not play around with your own hows and whys?

A way of play that nurtures a wall-free relationship with life. A wide open relationship with blank slate rooms and ordinary moments.

We need this active sparking of hope; this planting of the flame-seed. Deep within. We take in the winking red embers of autumn's last breath...

What we need, parents, is a good thrust of Piracy. To steal back the joy, the fulfillment, the wonder, the gratification, and sweetness of this strange mystery job we are ‘hacking’ our way through.

"The soapbox I call home is the techno-wary world of the techno-minimalist." I want to know what you think about kids and computers. One way or the other. Because I'm of a grappling mind today and this post is going intimately confessional... On the one hand I feel moved to throw on my tap shoes and dance on my soapbox (just a little). And on the other I feel unusually provoked to turn over my soapbox and inspect it for rot.

What does it mean to parent by magic? And how does the word magic ~ which implies a certain effortlessness and ease ~ end up next to the word parenting anyway?

But isn't it fascinating and true...that Parenting as we know it is "still under construction," because "modern childhood was invented less than seventy years ago"? That we are all flying by the seat of our sweet denim osh-kosh, figuring it out as we go?!

My fairy wings have been drooping awfully low. Oh, how we ALL need to be ground to a halt sometimes. Clobbered. Thwarted. Torn from the sky & arrested mid-busy-ness.

Every day you are telling me a story. The story of What Adults Are. Please don't make it boring...
